Bardiya’s Burhan Wilderness Camp has been chosen by Time magazine as one of the world’s 100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay.

Burhan Wilderness Camp is featured in Time’s annual list of the world’s greatest places. Today, TIME has revealed the annual list of the World’s Greatest Places, which highlights 100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay.

To compile this list, TIME solicited nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as via an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.

Burhan Wilderness Camps is located in a crucial bit of the Khata Wildlife Corridor in Bardiya (Nepal’s South West). It is run by a team of passionate conservationists in a micro-conservancy style. The area hosts some prime wildlife species including Greater One-Horned Rhinos, Bengal Tigers, Asian wild Elephants, and many birds such as Black Ibis, Ruddy Shelduck, Nightjars, Fishing Owls, etc.

Set up with a founding principle of ‘leaving no footprint’, the camp relies minimally on the structures on the land itself. Our tents are set up only when we have guests coming in and it remains a wild playground on other occasions. Wilderness lovers can make the best of their time while contributing to the sustained protection of this critical land for the wildlife and local communities and that is the main motto.

Co-founded by conservationist Manoj Gautam and his sister Prabha Gautam, Burhan was created to introduce true regenerative tourism which benefits the local people the most, as equally as it helps protect the local nature and culture.

In the past year, Burhan has hosted over 500 guests, and has injected funds into local conservation initiatives and community empowerment projects. It trains and employs local youth in rescue units and jungle guides.
