Nepal Produces Its First DM Hematologist: A Landmark Achievement in Medical Excellence

Kathmandu : Nepal has achieved a historic milestone in medical education and specialized healthcare with the graduation of Dr. Bikram Karki as the nation’s first DM hematologist. Dr. Karki successfully completed his Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Hematology from the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Bir Hospital, marking a significant advancement in the country’s ability to diagnose and treat complex blood disorders.

His achievement is a testament to the exceptional mentorship of Prof. Dr. Bishesh Sharma Poudyal, Nepal’s leading expert in hematology. Dr. Poudyal’s dedication and expertise have played a crucial role in shaping the country’s first generation of DM-trained hematologists. Under his guidance, Dr. Karki underwent three years of intensive training at Civil Service Hospital, a facility equipped with advanced hematology services, including a state-of-the-art bone marrow transplant unit.

This milestone represents a major step toward Nepal’s self-sufficiency in advanced hematological care. With specialized expertise now available within the country, Nepali patients can receive world-class diagnosis and treatment without the need to seek expensive care abroad.
