Mingma David Sherpa Aims for Historic 7th K2 Summit This Season

Kathmandu : Pakistan climbing season underway, the global mountaineering community is turning its attention to K2  and to Nepalese climbing legend Mingma David Sherpa, who is preparing for another bold attempt on the world’s second-highest peak.

Mingma David, Director of Elite Exped, has announced plans to summit K2 for a record-breaking seventh time. Already the holder of the world record for the most successful ascents of K2  with six summits to his name.  Mingma David is seeking to push the limits even further. His last ascent of the 8,611-meter mountain was on July 28, 2023, when he claimed the record with his sixth summit.

Notably, Mingma David was part of the historic team that achieved the first winter ascent of K2 in 2021  a feat that captured headlines worldwide and cemented his place among the elite of high-altitude mountaineering.

Speaking about his latest mission, Mingma David shared his enthusiasm: “I am excited about the prospect of a seventh summit and am looking forward to starting the attempt.”

Beyond his K2 accomplishments, Mingma David is renowned for other remarkable feats in the Himalayas, including setting the record for the world’s highest long line rescue on Dhaulagiri.

As the climbing season progresses, mountaineering enthusiasts will be watching closely to see whether Mingma David can once again etch his name into the history books.
