Kathmandu : In a move underscoring Nepal’s push toward renewable energy and large-scale clean power projects, Global Equity Fund Limited manager of the Nepal Infrastructures Investment Fund has announced a major investment in a 90 MW solar initiative in partnership with Dolma Impact Fund.
The Nepal Infrastructures Investment Fund is promoted by Himalayan Everest Insurance, Himalayan Life Insurance, Nepal Re-Insurance, and Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance. As part of this investment, Global Equity Fund has strategically acquired partial stakes from Dolma Impact Fund – I in Solar Farm Limited, Nepal’s pioneering on-grid solar Independent Power Producer (IPP), which currently operates a 5 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Belchautara, Tanahu.
Solar Farm Limited recently won the bid to develop the 90 MW on-grid solar project through two Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) — Solar Farm Lumbini (50 MW) and Solar Farm Buddhabhumi (40 MW).
With this move, Global Equity Fund has emerged as one of Nepal’s largest institutional investors in the solar sector. Through its various investment vehicles, the fund has previously invested in both on-grid and off-grid solar ventures, including the 25 MW Pashupati Renewables, 6.8 MW G.I Solar, and the off-grid solar company Gham Power.
According to company officials, this strategic investment not only strengthens Nepal’s renewable energy capacity but also signals growing institutional confidence in the solar sector’s long-term viability.
