Kathmandu, 18 August 2025 – PROTON Malaysia and Jagdamba Motors have reaffirmed their strong and growing partnership with a joint commitment to Nepal’s electric mobility future, marked by the historic launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 — Malaysia’s first locally developed electric vehicle.
This partnership, established in November 2018, has been instrumental in expanding PROTON’s global footprint. Nepal has emerged as a strategic growth market, with Jagdamba Motors serving as the sole authorized distributor for PROTON in the country.
The Proton e.MAS 7, developed through PROTON’s collaboration with Geely, blends world- class EV technology and design with insights tailored for regional markets. It reflects PROTON’s ambition to lead the EV transition in ASEAN and beyond.
The official launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 in Nepal was graced by PROTON CEO Dr. Li Chunrong, who personally officiated the ceremony in Kathmandu — a strong demonstration of the brand’s long-term commitment to the Nepalese market.
“Our partnership with Jagdamba Motors, our sole authorized distributor since November 2018, is a testament to the strong collaboration between PROTON and Geely. Together, we have successfully brought the first Malaysian-made EV to Nepal in March this year, and we are confident that our combined expertise and commitment will provide customers with comprehensive sales and after-sales support. We are committed to a long-term and successful presence in the Nepalese market,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer, Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd.
“Notably, at the time of writing, Geely has not appointed any official or authorized seller of Geely-branded vehicles in Nepal. Our focus in Nepal through this partnership remains exclusively on the PROTON brand and the Proton e.MAS 7,” he added.
With more than 14 years of automotive experience, Jagdamba Motors has been pivotal in laying the foundation for PROTON’s success in Nepal. The company has outlined a robust roadmap to support customers and create long-term value, including:
- 12 operational showrooms and service centers by the end of 2025 (with 3 already in operation)
- A world-class aftersales ecosystem featuring:
- Genuine PROTON spare parts
- PROTON & Geely-certified technicians
- Advanced diagnostic tools
- Streamlined warranty and customer service support
“Our alliance with PROTON is more than just a distribution partnership — it is a shared vision to drive Nepal into the future of sustainable mobility. With the introduction of the Proton e.MAS 7 and our expanding service network, we are committed to making electric vehicles more accessible, reliable, and desirable for every Nepali customer,” said Mr. Akhil Gupta, Executive Director, Jagdamba Motors.
The Proton e.MAS 7 has already achieved record-breaking success in its home market:
- 1 EV model in Malaysia (as of end-July 2025)
- Top-selling EV SUV in the C-segment
- Best-selling EV overall in the Malaysian market
Through this strengthened partnership, PROTON and Jagdamba Motors are accelerating Nepal’s transition to green mobility, expanding the EV ecosystem, and reinforcing PROTON’s reputation as a brand synonymous with innovation, trust, and excellence.
