KATHMANDU- The Government of China has handed over the announced cash assistance for the flood victims of Nepal. On Sunday, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, met Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle at the Ministry of Finance and handed over a check worth nearly NPR 305 million (USD 2 million) to the Finance Minister.
Similarly, Ambassador Maoming also handed over cash worth NPR 30.6 million (USD 200,000) provided by the Chinese Red Cross. While handing over the relief funds, Ambassador Maoming stated that both countries would jointly face the disaster suffered by Nepal and China due to the massive cataclysm in the Himalayan region.
Stating that the President and Prime Minister of China have sent messages to the Government of Nepal expressing that China always stands with Nepal in its times of disaster, Ambassador Maoming informed that other forms of assistance provided by the Chinese government have also begun entering Nepal.
Ambassador Maoming shared that today alone, two Chinese aircraft unloaded 50 tons of relief supplies—including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits, and biscuits—in Kathmandu. Furthermore, he mentioned that additional assistance will be provided continuously. He also informed the Finance Minister that efforts are underway to bring back Nepalis stranded on the Chinese side due to the Rasuwa flood through the Korala border point in Mustang.
Likewise, Ambassador Maoming informed that skilled manpower, along with a Chinese helicopter, arrived in Nepal yesterday to rescue those trapped in the hydropower company’s tunnel, and some additional skilled rescue technicians arrived in Nepal today.
He also informed the Finance Minister that the Chinese government is working at a fast pace to bring heavy-payload drones requested by the Government of Nepal for rescue operations. Accepting the assistance amount on behalf of the Government of Nepal, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle expressed gratitude to the Government of China for the support provided to Nepal during this unimaginable disaster.
