‘Bicycle for clean air’ campaign

Kathmandu : In the occasion of World Bicycle Day, 2025, ‘Bicycle for clean air’ campaign members demonstrated a inflated large bicycle in front of Singha Darbar, with banners stating ‘ Government, you fail to notice Bicycles. Hope you will see us now!’, to bring attention of the government towards bicycle as a feasible solution to the Urban poly-crisis that cities of Nepal has been facing.

The Campaign, ‘Swachaa Hawa ko laagi cycle’ has been organizing demonstrations since the air pollution peaked last winter making Kathmandu a city with the worst air pollution globally. The campaign collectively organized by different cycling groups, and institutions aim to continue lobbing to bring attention of the state at all levels to bring bicycle friendly infrastructure and policy to ensure rights of the bicycle users and to encourage more citizens to choose bicycle over other polluting private transports.

The campaign had also organized a bicycle rally last Saturday with 800 participants starting and ending in Basantapur Durbar Square where Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh had addressed the mass. Mean while, the first dedicated Bicycle lane of Kathmandu between Maitighar and Tinkune, has been decided to be dismantled by the City planning commission of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
